Sanding,Staining and then Finishing are the three basic steps of Refinishing  your hardwood floors. The rest of the article will teach you each of these steps.

The first thing you need to do is to sand your hardwood floor. Sweep and mop the floors first before applying sanding. It is wise to remove  nails or tacks before sanding. With the use of a floor sander, start sanding the floor around the corner of the room using 20-grit sandpaper.

Next, decide if you want to stain your floor. If you do not need to stain it, you may proceed to finish your floor which is mentioned on the next paragraph. Now if you opt to stain the floor you have to sweep the floor first or vacuum it. Utilize a brush to apply your selected stain. Wait for about 5 minutes to let the stain dry. If you think the floor needs a second coat you may apply another one using your brush.

Three to four coats of polyurethane are needed to be applied for your finishing. Next, cover the entirety of the floor with a wool cover or a thick nap roller both for stained or unstained floors. Apply one coat of polyurethane at a time and let it dry for about 3 to 6 hours before applying another coat. The drying time actually varies according to the brand of polyurethane you will be using. Therefore you need to check what kind of polyurethane you are using to determine the drying time.

Those are the three steps on how to refinish hardwood floors. You can easily refinish your hardwood floors anytime and make your surface look more beautiful and cleaner through those steps.
