Memory Cards For Cameras
Digital cameras are revolutionizing the world of professional and home photography. However, just like older traditional cameras utilize film, digital cameras utilize a camera memory card. Making the best use of a camera memory card can have a big impact on your digital photography enjoyment.
Capacity of a flash camera memory card is the amount of digital date that can be stored, measured in MB (megabytes) or GB (gigabytes. The higher the figure indicated on the card, the higher the capacity it has for storing digital date storage. Larger memory files or larger capacity camera memory cards of 512 megabytes or 1 gigabyte are recommended if you’re planning on working with RAW images on a regular basis.
RAW files can be as large as 20 megabytes in size, while high quality JPEGS typically are 1 to 4 megabytes in size. If shooting JPEGS, having your settings on high quality will give you a great photo image to share or to work from when editing with software.
By using multiple digital camera memory cards for your images, you can protect yourself from losing all of your photos if the card were to become lost or corrupted.
It is recommended that you have at least a 512 megabyte memory card for your digital camera for safely storing your images. For most digital cameras, using a card that is no smaller than 512 MB is a good storage size to go with, this can hold 100 to 200 JPEG images, depending on your settings and image content.
Higher resolution cameras will lower the space available on the memory card for storing images. You can determine the size of the camera memory card that you need by determining how many images you want it to be able to store or to save before transferring, and what resolution you will be using for your cameras photos.
Commercial digital cameras can use SD memory cards or Micro SD cards with an SD adpater as well, so if they have a cell phone or GPS as well, this size of memory card can be used for mulitple devices.
Professional digital cameras commonly referred to as SLR’s or DSLR’S use either SD cards or compact flash digital camera memory cards. Many photographers using these high end cameras will use a compact flash card with fast read and write speeds for faster processing and storage of their high mega pixel shots. So if a photographer is taking photos at a rapic pace, high performance flash cards will be ready to process and store high resolution images with no delay.
