A billboard chart will basically divide music into various genres so that each can be ranked. One song can cross over into two genres. There’s usually a list of the top 100, and that ranks the sales and airplay of a particular song. Once you understand how a music chart works, you can choose one that you follow.
While American Top 40, MTV, Billboard and Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 are among the more popular music charts, there are many others that you could tune into as well. Reasons for following any particular chart varies from person to person and ultimately you will choose which one suits your style.
One of the most popular top 40 countdown shows is American Top 40 with the incomparable Ryan Seacrest. This show is based on the most popular songs as designated by Mediabase. It’s a very entertaining show, but not quite as prestigious as Your Billboard Chart. One of the best-known and longest-lasting shows is Rick Dees weekly top 40. Similar to the American Top 40, it is still not quite as good as the Billboard chart.

If you have the time to go online, you can find dozens of charts that provide access to thousands of songs. MTV, for instance, has its own charts with a seemingly endless variety of music listings from just about every genre imaginable. It might be a little confusing to figure out just exactly what chart to search through first, but you might want to start with one of the must trustworthy charts ever devised – namely the Billboard charts. This is the gold standard of all musical charts because it has the most credibility among musicians. After all, it has been in existence since 1957.

Also, he should know that music charts vary and have different bases, such as popular vote, airplay, or sales. Which list you choose to watch will be because you believe the chart’s base is accurate. Watching the chart hints that either you are concerned about the global sales or perhaps how well the artist and or song is doing in a specific country.
